Dose is now offering coffee tasting sessions.
These come in two varieties, either the traditional ‘cupping’ or a more relaxed ‘tasting’.

Great for office Christmas events.

Cupping is how professionals across the world critically analyse coffee. It is a very simple process, so that wherever you are, be it a poorly equipped coffee farm or a slick modern roastery, the coffee is given the same treatment and meaningful results can be communicated to anyone else in the coffee profession.
It seems an arcane ritual at first, involving bowls of coffee lined up along a table, there is a ritualistic order of actions and participants ’slurp’ the coffee using special spoons and even spit into a cup (similar to a wine tasting in many ways), but the barnyard noises soon break the ice and you immerse yourself in the cornucopia of flavours and aromas.
Participants use a ‘cupping form’ and grade the different aspects of the coffees giving a final score out of 100. The coffees are tasted ‘blind’ and after the tasting, we reveal the coffees and discuss the results.

A Coffee Tasting is less formal and focusses more on discussing and comparing the coffees than scoring them. It is a pretty flexible format and can involve brewed coffee, espresso or both. It could be deconstructing an espresso blend or brewing in a French Press to discuss the effects that origin, processing or roasting have in the cup. It can also be structured to discuss the differences between different types of coffee brewing equipment. A tasting can be a bespoke event and makes a great group activity.

In both of these, you will discover a thing or two about what you like in a coffee and what to look for when purchasing beans. You’ll understand more of what those sometimes confusing terms on the bag actually mean and how they influence the finished product.

Upcoming cuppings and tastings will be announced on the dose website, twitter and facebook pages.

Bespoke cuppings/tastings can be held at Dose (up to 10 people), or even at your office for larger numbers- click here to get in touch and see what we can do for your office Christmas event.

We’ll be having regular, casual cuppings in the afternoons during the week, they’ll be open to the public for participation, we’ll let you now via twitter, facebook and the blackboard. If you are interested in knowing more about tastings or cuppings or in organising a private, bespoke event, do get in touch.
